MacOS X Mojave Users
MacOS X Mojave (10.14) includes new Security and Privacy checks that require users to authorize inter-application communication, such as that between Endnote and Microsoft Word for CiteWhileYouWrite. Not setting this authorization may cause Word to not respond to Bibliography creation and formatting commands. To set up:
- Open System Preferences (can do via Apple menu)
- Select Security and Privacy
- Select the Privacy tab at the top and the Automation options at left.
- Make sure MS Word and Endnote checks are on. (see screenshot below)
Mac Sierra, High Sierra, and Mojave Users
MacOS versions 10.12 (Sierra), 10.13 (High Sierra), and 10.14 (Mojave) contain features to save the contents of the Documents folder in iCloud and to "optimize" storage by storing less-used files only in iCloud online. EndNote libraries stored in iCloud, even when stored on both the hard drive and online, are subject to corruption over time. If you choose to store your documents in iCloud, we suggest creating a separate folder in your home folder and saving your EndNote libraries there. Do not store EndNote libraries in iCloud or any other cloud-syncing folder, and do not store EndNote libraries in the Documents folder if you have selected the option to store documents in iCloud.
You can find more information on these features on the Apple support site at these locations.
EndNote can automatically download many of your PDFs into your EndNote Library for you to read, markup / annotate or search through the full text (using EndNote's internal searching functions). While it will find many of the article you need automatically, it won't find them all.
Why? We don't have subscriptions to every journal so you'll need to order some of the articles from our InterLibrary Loan Service. Some of the articles can't be automatically downloaded because of the different journal packages and 3rd party content vendors. You can download these yourself and then attach them to the appropriate record in your EndNote Library.
If this sounds like a lot of gobbledygook, consider signing up for one of our EndNote classes or if you'd like to arrange a group session for your department, lab or group, you can use the Special Classes Request form and we'll work with you to meet your schedule.
