Linking to Licensed Online Resources: Off-Campus LINK CREATOR for Licensed Online Resources

Instructions for students and faculty on how to create URLs to library-licensed content that will work from off campus, as well as on campus.

Who Gets Off Campus Access to Journals & Databases?

To access online Health Sciences Library resources from off campus, you must be a primary user of the Health Sciences Library. You'll be asked to log in at the point of accessing the licensed resource (for example, when clicking on a database link on the library website).

Student, staff, or regular faculty? Use your PassportID to log in. You only have to log in once per browser session.

Users such as faculty paid by affiliate and volunteer clinical faculty (VCF program) will need to manually register with the library to receive a library login. Manual library registrations may expire yearly and can be renewed by calling us. Approved users will receive special credentials for access.

If you have questions about your library registration call our Service Desk, at 303-724-2152.

How Off Campus Access Works

EZproxy for Off Campus Access

From off campus, you may notice a proxy prefix on URLs for licensed resources, illustrated in this link to Web of Science:
http://proxy.hsl.ucdenver.edu/login?url=http://isiknowledge.com/WOS
For more info click "How Off Campus Access Works".

If you just need to create a proxy-formatted link that will work both on and off campus, use the URL creator below.

HSL Off Campus URL Creator ( for proxy.hsl.ucdenver.edu )

Exceptions

This works for most URLs. The Ovid publisher is one exception.
For Ovid, use the feature within Ovid at the right side of their pages called Email Jumpstart in order to get permalinks to Ovid citations and full text.

1. Copy and paste your source URL here:

2. Click this:

3. Copy and use the resulting link

EZProxy Server Errors

If you create a correct EZProxy URL and get the following message, it means EZProxy does not have a configuration for the resource you are trying to access.

To allow http://resourcename.proxy.hsl.ucdenver.edu to be used in a starting point URL, your EZproxy administrator must first authorize the hostname of this URL in the ezproxy.cfg file. [etcetera...]

If this happens, send an email to HSL e-resources support including the text of the error message so that we can explore adding the resource into the EZProxy configuration file.

Thanks

Thanks to Charles Darwin University, Library Services for the URL creator javascript functionality!
